Obtained an Extra. He was dead. At home found subjoined telegram. K. felt that his presence was necessary there as the old friend of the Mormon people. It was impossible for him to leave instantly, but he started on the Wednesday 5th September at 6. A. M. I accompanied him as far as Erie. At Chicago he halted to await an- -swers to telegrams forwarded from Erie asking if his presence was necessary. The answers were urgent: they had been waiting for him before doing anything.
